Permeability, Alkalinity, and Chloride Concentration Measurements in VDOT Concrete Mix Designs and the Corrosion Resistance of these Designs

Project No: 81530

Target Completion Date: June 30, 2012 Structures

About the project:

This study will investigate the alkalinity, permeability, and chloride concentration at fresh and hardened states (adjacent to the steel) of various VDOT concrete mix designs and analyze the relationship between these variables and the corrosion resistance of a structure. This will be done on laboratory specimens with alkalinity measurements being made on the fresh as well as the hardened concrete, while chloride and permeability measurements will be made on hardened concrete. To evaluate the corrosion resistance of the steel reinforced specimens, these specimens will be exposed to saltwater and monitored.
