Performance of Bridge Deck Overlays - Phase II - Field Survey

Project No: 109961

Target Completion Date: September 23, 2019 Structures

About the project:

Deicing salt application, live loads, and weather conditions all play significant roles in determining the service life and maintenance requirements of bridge decks. Overlaying continues to be most commonly used method of preventive or protective rehabilitation for extending the service life of bridge decks. The purpose of this study is to conduct field surveys of the condition of selected bridge deck overlay treatments identified in Phase I of this study and to identify the primary factors that influence their performance. The data collected from the field and the inspection reports will be analyzed to understand the performance of the overlay systems and, ultimately, formulate a decision-making process for guiding future rehabilitation actions.
