The purpose of this study is to evaluate the long-term performance of an integral bridge equipped with Geofoam at the backwall-soil interface. An elastic material applied at the back of an integral backwall will be used to accommodate cyclic movement to minimize settlement at the approaches. It is envisioned that the results of this study will be generally applicable to steel girder integral backwall bridges. An assessment of current VDOT design guidelines will be made.
