Construction of the Waynesboro Route 340 Bridge with Maintenance Free Corrosion Resistant Steel Girders

Project No: 108592

Target Completion Date: November 8, 2019 Structures

About the project:

This project will document the construction of the U.S. Route 340 Bridge in the City of Waynesboro, Virginia with maintenance-free corrosion resistant steel girders, cross-frames, and stainless steel bolts.  This will include documenting the making of the ASTM A1010 steel plate, girder fabrication and secondary members, erecting of the girders including bolting, and completion of the construction process.  The types and properties of the materials used to fabricate the girders will be documented and compared to traditional materials.  Cost analyses will be performed and guidance provided to the Virginia Department of Transportation regarding the most efficacious use of this type of plate girder in bridge construction projects.
