Welding of ASTM A1010 Steel

Project No: 109736

Target Completion Date: March 31, 2020 Structures

About the project:

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has transitioned to using more alloyed steel products, and even composite materials like carbon fiber reinforced polymer materials, to mitigate corrosion in bridges. One of the materials VDOT is evaluating for steel plate girders is ASTM A1010, which has been shown to exhibit greater corrosion resistance when compared to weathering steel. The purpose of this project is to test several different consumable suppliers, consumable materials, interpass temperatures, and heat inputs when fabricating plate girders with ASTM A1010.
