Use of Two New Corrosion-Resistant Metallic Reinforcing Bars in Two New Concrete Bridge Decks in Virginia

Project No: 73184

Target Completion Date: February 27, 2007 Structures

About the project:

The ultimate goal is to eliminate corrosion of reinforcement as a major factor in limiting the service life so that all new concrete bridges will last longer than 75 to 100 years. To achieve this goal, the objectives of the project are (1) to supplement ongoing laboratory investigations that are designed to identify new reinforcing bars with excellent corrosion resistance, and (2) to provide opportunities for these new bars to be tried in new construction, thereby inducing competition among various manufacturers in the industry that will lead to price-competitive products for the states.
