Sonic methods, such as acoustic emissions (AE) and ultrasonic testing (UT) have proven to be reliable tools when nondestructively evaluating metallic components in the field. This research will attempt to capitalize on the advancements in sonic testing of metals and use that knowledge to assess concrete. This study will use various sonic techniques to evaluate critical concrete design requirement, such as proper consolidation of the concrete during placement and strength development, as well as the detection of cracks, voids, and delaminated regions
