Investigation of Fiber Reinforced Self-Consolidating Concrete

Project No: 80339

Target Completion Date: May 31, 2010 Pavements

About the project:

Much progress has been made in recent years in the practical application of self-consolidating concrete. The extension of this technology to incorporate distributed fiber reinforcement for crack control in select applications may be desirable. Applications would include columns, walls, closure diaphrams, and beams. The project will evaluate the feasibility of fiber reinforced self-consolidating concrete (FRSCC). Tests will be conducted in the laboratory to assess the fresh and hardened properties of FRSCC. Fresh state properties include workability, or flowability, and consolidation criteria, as well as working time and finishing characteristics. Physical testing of cured laboratory specimens will assess the degree of consolidation, and the effects on physical behavior such as strength, modulus of elasticity, tensile/flexure performance relative to crack control, and durability.
