Target Completion Date: December 20, 2004 Structures
The aging infrastructure requires corrosion mitigation techniques designed for the rehabilitation of existing structures. This project investigates the use of surface-applied inhibitors to extend the life of existing reinforced concrete bridge decks. It will examine two different inhibitors and two different application methods to determine if either inhibitor can be applied in a manner that effectively decreases the rate of corrosion in reinforced concrete bridge decks. The costs associated with this corrosion mitigation technique are expected to be small because the material cost are not expensive, the equipment used to treat a structure are fairly inexpensive, and this technique does not require the traffic to be rerouted for extended periods.
