About the project:
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has experienced several failures of sign panels recently. The failures have occurred at the aluminum stud/sign panel weld due to fatigue loading on the sign panels by wind loads (terrestrial and those induced by passage of truck traffic). It is proposed to investigate these failures by determining the remaining service life of the many remaining sign panels owned by VDOT.
