An Investigation of the Type and Frequency of Shoulder Maintenance Problems Encountered on the VDOT

About the project

This project will determine the:· Target levels-of-service for pavement shoulders and pavement edges (i.e., what are the current expectations?), · Routine shoulder and pavement edge maintenance activities on the VDOT-maintained system Types of shoulder and pavement edge problems encountered, Frequency of occurrence of the problems, Techniques used by VDOT and others to deal with these problems, Effectiveness of the various techniques on the problem. Alternative shoulder maintenance devices, features, and maintenance techniques, for further investigation, especially for secondary system roadways.
