A Quiet-Pavement Implementation Program for Virginia

Project No: 00032

Target Completion Date: October 31, 2015 Structures

About the project:

This research will document the progression to routine application of quiet-pavement technologies in Virginia. It will chronicle the selection of technologies and the development and construction of demonstration projects. It also will document the functional, structural and material test methods used to compare performance and conclude with a proposed strategy for full-scale implementation by VDOT.

In addition to the demonstration projects, the study will include functional comparison testing of more conventional traveled surfaces from around Virginia. The research program will also montior the performance of an installation of the most promising asphalt technology at the pavement test track at the National Center for Asphalt Technology.

Legislation from the 2011 General Assembly directed VDOT to construct several demonstration projects to further study quiet-pavement technologies as a follow-up to the results of a 2008 installation in Northern Virginia.
