Transit bus maintenance practices as used by thirteen small and medium-sized transit systems in Virginia were cataloged. Different approaches to maintenance were investigated and the current condition of transit bus maintenance was determined. Factors affecting the performance of transit bus maintenance were identified and recommendations were developed that address the current problems in the maintenance operations of the transit systems studied.
