Bridge Esthetic Guidelines

Report No: 76-R12

Published in 1975

About the report:

As esthetics is not an exact science, differences of opinion occur, even between experts; however, studies had found that in most cases there were statistical preferences. These preferences are presented. For the convenience of the designer, a format using systematic diagrams of the component parts of short and medium length highway bridges used in Virginia is employed. Diagrams illustrating less preferred designs, augmented with brief statements concerning the rationale, are shown. Selected references are included.
