Virginia Connected Corridors Next

Project No: 114225

Target Completion Date: October 31, 2020 Safety, Operations, and Traffic Engineering

About the project:

VTTI and VTRC have been collaborating to develop the Virginia Connected Corridors (VCC). Infrastructure-based devices have been deployed on both interstate and arterial roadway segments and communications between the roadside and equipped vehicles has been demonstrated. Additionally, a prototype Smartphone application has been developed to provide communications with unequipped vehicles. The next year of development will focus on improved applications and support for wider deployment including the Work Zone Builder application, VCC Mobile/VCC Worker extensions to support collection of SSP roadside crew status and dissemination of this data through VCC Mobile and SmarterRoads.org, and completing remaining SPaT deployment and real-time kinematic (RTK) correction deployment and validation tasks. The effort will also support program administration and system maintenance over the project duration and cooperative development of future task descriptions for applications such as improved work zone data and virtual ATM components.
