Integration of Travel-Demand Model Results with Operational Analysis Tools

Project No: 102608

Target Completion Date: December 9, 2013 Safety, Operations, and Traffic Engineering

About the project:

The outputs of travel-demand models frequently are used for analyses of proposed intelligent transportation systems (ITS) projects before they are deployed. However, the outputs provided by these planning models often are not compatible with the format of the required input s for operational analysis tools.

The purpose of this study is to develop post-processing methods that can be applied to travel-demand models to provide the required inputs to the operational analysis tools. The project will take advantage of previous work to the maximum extent possible.

The researchers will document the results of this study in a guidebook, which will include strategies for using an integrated planning/operational analysis software system and for evaluating ITS operational capacity enhancements. The guidelines should help the Virginia Department of Transportation and the state’s metropolitan planning organizations identify the most effective transportation investments for each situation.
