Guidelines for Developing Transportation Management Plans for Construction Projects

Project No: 57286

Target Completion Date: June 20, 2005 Safety, Operations, and Traffic Engineering

About the project:

The purpose of this research is to establish guidelines for developing TMPs for construction projects. There is a need for a systematic procedure and/or checklist for developing plans to lessen the impact of construction projects that restore or improve high -volume limited access highways. In the maintenance and operations strategic outcome area, one of the strategies is to reduce the number and duration of daytime/peak hour congestion points created by construction work zones. TMPs are designed to achieve this strategy. The deliverable from this project will be TMP guidelines. Implementation of the resulting guidelines will enable VDOT to develop and deploy TMPs effectively and consistently statewide to reduce congestion created by major construction work zones.
