Arterial Congestion Bottlenecks - Pilot Study

Project No: 114686

Target Completion Date: September 30, 2020 Safety, Operations, and Traffic Engineering

About the project:

Performance-based and data-driven approaches are increasingly deployed in various VDOT programs to support decision making and investment optimization. The VTRC research project “Improving the Identification and Characterization of Arterial Congestion Bottlenecks” developed a new data-driven approach to analyze arterial bottlenecks. This study will implement the recommendations developed in the research project, including applying the developed methodology to select intersections, exploring the use of this methodology for before-after study, and documenting the findings. This study will also explore relevant topics identified in the research project as future research needs.
