VDOT Research Library

The VDOT Research Library is located at VTRC in Charlottesville, but serves all VDOT employees regardless of their role or location.

The library was founded at VTRC in 1945. Today it has the largest transportation library collection in the state, with print and digital publications from core publishers. The library is largely virtual, and is not restricted to “researchers.” We serve VDOT employees in all districts and divisions, and we also support U.Va. faculty and students, Virginia residents and other transportation researchers.

The library promotes research excellence and innovation by helping all VDOT employees locate the right information at the right time and in the right format. This ultimately saves the Virginia Department of Transportation both time and money.

The VDOT Research Library is among the oldest DOT-affiliated transportation libraries in the nation, and focuses its services primarily on VTRC researchers, VDOT employees and U.Va. students.
